SP Baten gets bail in bribe case

The High Court (HC) yesterday granted bail to sacked SP (Superintendent of Police) MA Baten for his alleged bribe offers to State Minister for Home Lutfuzzaman Babar.

An HC bench comprising Justices Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and Farid Ahmed ordered bail for Baten until charges are framed against him in the case.

On June 3, a Police Headquarters press release said Babar had informed Home Secretary Omar Farooq and Inspector General of Police Shahudul Haque of the bribe offer.

The SP was arrested the same evening and handed over to Ramna Police Station.

Kamruzzaman, the state minister's personal secretary, lodged a case with Ramna police the same night accusing Baten of offering bribe to Babar at his secretariat office.

Dr Kamal Hossain and Barrister Sara Hossain moved for SP Baten in the case.
