Bomb attack on AL office in Jamalpur hurts 6
MP Mirza Azam escapes unhurt


A bomb attack on an Awami League (AL) office in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur last night wounded six AL activists but AL lawmaker Mirza Azam escaped unhurt.

Local AL has called dawn-to-dusk hartal in Jamalpur for tomorrow to protest the attack.

After distributing relief among flood-affected people, Azam, also chairman of the main opposition party's youth wing Jubo League, was talking with local AL leaders in front of Mahmudpur AL office at around 8:00pm when unknown assailants hurled a bomb at the AL office.

The air was heavy with cry of the injured, as six AL men collapsed to the ground on being hit by splinters and panicked people ran for cover.

Local reporters, who rushed to the scene, found bloodstains in the area, which was deserted.

Shop owners in the area and nearby Balijhuribazar shut down their businesses in fear of further violence.

Local AL took out processions in Madarganj and Jamalpur town after the incident.
