Sarbahara leader held, 7 surrender after gunfight with police

A leader of the outlawed sarbahara Party was arrested after gunfight with police at Pochamaria village in Charghat upazila in the early hours of yesterday.Jalal, injured with bullets in the leg, was arrested with a loaded pistol. After his arrest, seven operatives of the underground outfit named Gafur, Mobin, Rabiul, Fazal, Salam, Khaleq and Kader surrendered, while others fled away, police said. Tipped-off, police surrounded the house of one Abdus Salam at the village at 3:00am where the Sarbahara men were holding a meeting. Sensing presence of the police, the outlaws opened fire. Police returned fire, leading to a shootout between the two sides for half an hour.
