Maple Leaf school buying time to enrol 5 students, allege guardians
Staff Correspondent
A section of guardians yesterday alleged that the authorities of Maple Leaf International School were trying to cancel the studentship of five students in violation of a court order."The school authorities have refused to enrol five students whose parents went to court challenging the hike in tuition and annual fees," said Shafiqul Islam Shahin, convenor of the Maple Leaf Guardian Forum, at a press conference. He said the court had served a show cause notice on the school authorities asking them to explain why the increase in tuition and annual fees would not be declared unlawful. The guardians again went to court after the school refused to enrol the students in new classes. On July 14, Senior Assistant Judge AKM Shahidul Islam ordered the school to enrol the students by July 17. But the school authorities were still buying time, they said. The authorities did not enrol the students in upper classes, neither did they give transfer certificate (TC), the guardians said, adding that they will submit a memorandum to the prime minister and the education minister tomorrow to inform them of the issue. Principal of Maple Leaf School Zeba Ali could not be reached over telephone despite repeated attempts for her comments.
