HC acquits death sentence of 7


A High Court (HC) division bench on Monday acquitted seven persons who were awarded death sentence by a lower court in Advocate Abul Hossain Murder Case in Jhenidah.

The division bench consisting of Justice Ali Asgar Khan and Justice Ashraful Islam announced the discharge order of the convicts from the case after examining the District and Sessions Judge Court verdict.

The acquitted persons are Mizanur Rahman, Ohidul Islam, Zulfikar Ali, Abdul Wahab, Asgar Ali, Ismail Hossain and Rabiul Islam of Haibatpur village in Sadar upazila, Jessore.

The division bench was formed for approving the death sentence after hearing reference.

According to the case, unidentified miscreants gunned down advocate Abul Hossain near Haibatpur Girls' High School at Haibatpur village when he was returning home from a local bazaar at about 9 pm on March 5 in 1997.

District and Sessions Judge Ainul Islam sentenced seven people to death on November 12 in 2002.
