Abducted jeweller yet to b e rescued

Police are yet to rescue the jeweller who was abducted by a group of miscreants at gunpoint from his village home at Padua under Rangunia upazila in Chittagong district on Monday.

Police said they arrested three suspects yesterday in connection with the abduction of Apu Banik who returned home from Dubai a month ago.

The abductors asked the family members of the victim to pay a ransom of Tk 5 lakh for his release.

Apu was initially taken to a hideout at nearby hills and later shifted to Bandarban, said the police quoting the villagers.

Talking to The Daily Star, Chittagong Police Super Mahbubur Rahman said " We are raiding different hideouts in the hills and have sent a team to Bandarban to rescue Apu."

"We are also trying to nab some other criminals who might have been involved in the abduction," he added.
