A misunderstood religion
Alif ,Dhaka
Islam is misunderstood by the affluent and materialistic, industrial, non-Muslim first world. Too much disunity due to huge communication gaps continent-wise; and cultural, language and economic disparity. As a Muslim in an under-developed country, I find the international diplomacy of Saudi Arabia and other rich Muslim nations difficult to understand the aloofness is misunderstood by friendly nations, and more so, by the masses in these countries. The human touch is not being exported. 'Khairat' is not enough for the 'miskins'. Social parity is lacking in the rich Muslim nations. This richness is bestowed by the Almighty note the energy resources in the desert and barren countries. Monarchies are operating at the centre, or on the left, or right of the centre? Why the Arabs and Turks (for example) are not seen in our bazaars and shopping centres in Dhaka? Financial aid is not enough for the human interface. Subsidised tourist packages may be offered by all nations in the Islamic world, remembering that the vast majority cannot afford foreign trips and holidays. The OIC may consider creating common pools for short exchanges of small groups of visitors (tourists) under different age and vocational groups. The cultural exchanges are simply not enough (widen beyond the public sponsorship circle). High level meetings and conferences are visible to about one percent of the population. There are many unexplored areas to foster face-to-face contacts, skipping social and local barriers.
