Abducted Ctg businessman rescued

Police yesterday rescued a businessman and a woman, who was used as bait, from the grip of abductors from Demsa village in Satkania upazila.

A special contingent of Chittagong Metropolitan Police led by Deputy Commissioner (North) Abdullahil Baki carried out a 16-hour-long predawn raid in the village, 30km off the city, police sources said.

The team cordoned off a house at 7:00am yesterday and rescued Giasuddin Dildar, 47, and Putul Akhter, 21, representative of an insurance company, but could not nab any of the abductors.

The sources said Dildar was trapped in the hideout as his rivals called him out of his house using the woman on Saturday following a financial dispute. The criminals also demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh for Dildar's release over cell phone, police said.

Police picked up two residents of the house -- Alauddin and Kamal Nahar -- for questioning.
