Tk 109.28 cr PDB bills unrealised in Rajshahi

Different state-owned and private organisations in eight districts of Rajshahi owed Tk 109.28 cr arrears electricity bills to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).The greater district-wise breakup of the arrears bills are Tk 42.98 cr in Rajshahi, Tk 71.87 cr in Pabna and Tk 27.92 cr in Bogra. Official sources said, revenue earning in the region stood at Tk 363.86 cr in last fiscal while the revenue collection was Tk 323.35 cr in the 2002-'03 fiscal. Chief Engineer of BPDB, Rajshahi distribution region, Mohsin Ali told that his organisation realised Tk 43.52 cr from its 2,72,713 subscribers in June this year. Among the defaulters, Tk 25.09 cr were unpaid from Rajshahi City Corporation, Tk 9.63 cr from Kowmi Jute Mills in Sirajganj, Tk 5 cr from North Bengal Paper Mills and Tk 2.94 cr from Sirajgonj Spinning Mills. The BPDB authorities and on duty magistrates filed 1,450 cases in the three greater districts till June last and disconnected 6,921 power supply lines, including 411 illegal connections. BPDB also realised Tk 2.88 cr as revenue by filing cases against the defaulters.
