Extortionists have demanded illegal toll from Jumm cultivators in the district.

They asked for sending extortion to their hidden dens by July 26 or 'face dire consequence.'

They sent letters to at least 20 headmen and five karbaris of Noapotang, Baghmara and Tarachha area in Roangchhari upazila to collect extortion in their names, a village headman told this to The Daily Star requesting not to be named.

He also said because of the threat he has left the village.

However, an old karbari said that the miscreants had become desperate after losing their arms.

During the beginning of July, army men recovered one SMC (sub-machine carbine), eight bullets, a foreign made revolver with five rounds of bullets from Shilbangapara area of Roagchhari including four pistols from Amtali area in Sadar upazila.
