10 drown as boat sinks in Assam

Ten people drowned and four were reported missing after a boat capsized Sunday in the flood-hit northeastern Indian state of Assam, police said. The accident, involving a vessel carrying about 50 passengers, took place in the early evening in Morigaon, some 70km east of Guwahati, Assam's main city. A police official said four people were still unaccounted for. Locals had earlier saved 36 passengers. Rescue efforts are under way to find the missing people, the police official added.
