Ban on collecting relief materials condemned

Different political parties yesterday condemned the prohibition of collecting money and materials for flood affected people.

Criticising the government order, the left-leaning five-party said it is inhuman to halt the collection of relief materials for flood victims.

Leaders of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal said more than three crore people have been affected by floods and diarrhoea, but the government could not provide sufficient relief for them.

So, the government must not halt the private collection of relief materials for affected people, they added.

Samajtantrik Chhatra Front urged the government to withdraw the order immediately for the sake of distressed humanity.

Bangladesh Chhatra Federation condemned the arrest of their four activists while they were collecting money and materials for flood-hit people.

Bangladesh Workers Party has also condemned the ban on the collection of relief materials.

Police said the government imposed the ban when some unscrupulous groups were engaged in collecting toll from the city people in the name of relief.

They said it also created traffic jam in the city.
