The dead victim is Akunji Masud Alam,32, son of late Wazed Ali of Pabla ward in Daulatpur thana here.

Outlaws gunned down him at Muktarkati village in Sadar thana, Pirojpur on Tuesday. He was buried at Goalkhali graveyard on Wednesday.

His wife Jolly Begum told this correspondent on receipt of death threat from outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddho) in April, her husband went into hiding. The threat came for his failure to pay their demanded illegal toll amounting to Tk 10 lakh. Moreover, her husband resisted illegal toll collection by PBCP armed cadres residing in different places of Daulatpur thana.

Masud used to come to Khulna from Dhaka twice a month. Riding a motorcycle he was coming to Khulna from Dhaka via Pirojpur on Tuesday.

Pirojpur Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain told this correspondent Masud's head was completely smashed by bullets fired by outlaws. The same night his motor cycle was recovered from Nazirpur bus stand in Pirojpur town.

Daulatpur Thana OC Makhbul Hossain disclosed that Masud had filed two general diaries in March and April seeking security of his life from PBCP cadres.

A revolver bullet was pulled out of his chest during autopsy at Pirojpur morgue on Wednesday.
