7 yr girl married to 13 yr boy

Local people were shocked on Thursday when they learnt about a child marriage at Kachia village in Borhanuddin upazila, Bhola on July 21.The bride is Laiju, a seven-year-old girl and the bridegroom is Ershad, a 13-year-old boy of the same village. Laiju's mother Bakul Bibi told this correspondent she arranged the married of her minor daughter in absence of her husband due to poverty. She gave her consent to the marriage after getting a promise of financial assistance from her son-in-law's guardians. Imam Lokman of Keramatia Jame-mosque conducted the marriage ceremony, according to local people. On return from Dhaka Laiju's father Hasan Mia told this correspondent his daughter's marriage took place without his permission.
