Clash between BDR, smugglers leave 2 dead


Two men died and 20 were injured yesterday in a clash between the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and alleged smugglers at Narendrapur, a bordering village in sadar upazila.

Captain Tariq of BDR and police officer Zamiruddin Ahmed said a BDR team was returning with seized smuggled Indian sarees worth about Tk one lakh at about noon when smugglers attacked them with lethal arms. BDR in self-defence opened seven rounds of fire that left Alef, 45 and Kuran, 30, dead on the spot.

Nayek Subedar Abdus Samad injured during the clash was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and Sepoy Sohel Rana to the Sadar Hospital.
