SA's tour game ends in a draw

South Africa captain Graeme Smith warmed up for the first Test against Sri Lanka next week with 85 not out against a Board President's XI on Sunday.Smith spent valuable time in the middle, facing 112 balls and hitting 12 boundaries, as South Africa settled for batting practice after being set a stiff 312-run victory target in a maximum 45 overs. Jacques Kallis also made good use of his last opportunity to acclimatise to Sri Lanka's slow, turning pitches with 25 from 42 balls before both captains settled for a draw. Earlier, the President's XI, resuming on 123 for one, piled up 286 for three in 73 overs before declaring as South Africa, rotating 14 players in the field, used nine bowlers. Opener Michael Vandort top-scored 129, including 19 fours and one six, sharing a 187-run partnership for the second wicket with Russel Arnold (83). Romesh Kaluwitharana, Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper for the two-Test series, scored his second fifty of the match, speeding to 54 not out from 69 balls. The first Test starts in Galle on August 1. Sri Lanka will announce their Test squad later on Sunday after the Asian Cup final against India.
