New album on songs of yesteryears
Ogo bandhu kachhe theko

People are forgetting the musical artistes of our golden era. Along with their names, their melodious songs are also fading away. In the recent remix culture the songs, which incorporate inputs of modern instruments, are being destroyed. To rectify this situation and help the new generation to get acquainted with the beautiful songs of the yesteryears--the film songs of the 1960s and 1970s, to be precise-- we have released this album,' said Khayrul Anam Shakil. The new album is titled Ogo bandhu kachhe theko.

Kalpana, his wife, said, 'We did not change the style or arrangements of the songs. We used the same instruments that were used at that time like tabla, flute, harmonium and violin. But as we have recorded with modern technology, the quality of recording is definitely high.'

As it is an album containing songs of yesteryears, the music company requested Shakil and Kalpana to use their names in a different way. So, the album contains the names of the duo as Shakil Anam and Kalpana Anam.

Under the banner of World Music, the album contains 13 songs including the golden numbers like Eki shonar aloy, Bhul shobi bhul, Ganeri khatay swarlipi, Ekta gan likho, Loke bole rag naki and Tumi shat shagorer opar hote. Ferdousi Rahman, Anjum Ara Begum and other eminent artistes of that period originally rendered these songs. Durbadol Chottopaddhay is the music director of the album.

In their own words the singing duo said, 'Although we essentially perform Nazrul songs, for the first time we are presenting musical gems of the yesteryears from Bangladesh and West Bengal. We have presented the old songs of 60s with the preservation of the musical arrangement of that era. Our main goal is to pay homage to the original performers, composers and lyricists.'
