Capturing the monsoon magic
Cultural Correspondent
Nandan organises musical evenings every three months. The aim is to promote the low profile talented artistes from both the new and old generation. Nandan recently arranged a musical evening with the Tagore songs of the monsoon at the Bangladesh YWCA Bhaban. Under the title of Brishti nesha bhora shondhyabela the programme counts as the seventh of its kind. Drama activist, Aly Zaker, was the special guest at the programme. He extended his wishes for a long innings for Nandan in its artistic journey. Promising singers like Shumon Choudhury, Shushmita Golam Tanwi, Anjuman Ferdousi Kakoli, Mamun Zahid Khan, Tasnima Begum Eli and Tanzina Parvin Tama performed songs like Emon dine tare bola jay, Aji tomay abar chai shonabare, Utal dhara badol jhare and Bandhu raho raho. The songs are from different categories like love, worship and devotional. There was a blend of modern instruments such as keyboards and traditional ones such as tabla and harmonium,. Hosted by Faria Hossain Chaiti the programme was sponsored by Abir General Hospital, Humayun Farook and Robaet Ferdous. With the slogan of Exquisite journey to promote culture, Nandan was established in January 2003. The organisation is dedicated to promote music in its original form and save it from any kind of distortion. Nandan organises programme where artistes perform songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam, D L Roy, Atul Proshad and Rajanikanto. However, it is fair to say that the programm was mediocre. The organisation still has a long way to go.
