116 bags of sulphur seized in Bhola

Police yesterday recovered 116 sacks of sulphur and arrested three people from Radhaballav Bazar under Daulatkhan thana in Bhola.

Acting on a tip off, a team of Daulatkhan Police Station yesterday arrested Abul Kalam, 34, and Mohammad Shafi, 35, who confessed to police that they had brought a cargo of explosive material for Nasu Mia of the locality from a ship at Majhir Ghat in Chittagong.

Police arrested Nasu, a notorious smuggler, raided his godown and seized the sulphur.

The trawler bringing the cargo to Daulatkhan managed to take flight. Police suspect the huge amount of sulphur might be used for making bombs to carry out sabotage in the country.

Some shop owners of Radhaballav alleged police seized 150 sacks of sulphur but shown 116 bags.
