Speakers at a rally yesterday called for creating strong public opinion in favour of executing the verdict in Bangabandhu Murder Case. They said the BNP-led alliance government is reluctant to execute the verdict. The rally was organised during a token hunger strike programme observed by Swechchhasebok League, a front organisation of Awami League (AL), demanding immediate execution of the verdict at the Central Shaheed Minar. AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil said it is meaningless to ask the government for the execution of the verdict as it has completely failed to establish the rule of law. He welcomed the hunger strike programme saying it will help create mass-sentiment in favour of the execution of the verdict. Whatever the government says, the execution of the verdict is being delayed intentionally, said AL Presidium Member Abdus Samad Azad. "We have to unseat the government if we want to see the execution of the verdict, " he asserted. AL former general secretary Jillur Rahman called upon the people to foil all conspiracies to protect the killers of Bangabandhu. AL Presidium Member Abdur Razzaq, Joint General Secretary Obaidul Kader, Advisor A S H K Sadeque, Swechchhasebok League President Bahauddin Nasim and General Secretary Pankaj Devnath, former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Prof A K Azad Chowdhury, Dhaka University Teachers' Association President AAMS Arefin Siddiqui and Barrister Aminul Islam also took part in the day-long hunger strike and addressed the rally.
