Sri Lanka, Korea concerned over loss of lives, property


Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Korean Prime Minister Hai-Chan Lee have expressed their deep concern and sorrow over the loss of lives and property in flood in Bangladesh.

In a message to President Iajuddin Ahmed, the Sri Lankan President said the government and the people of Sri Lanka joined together to express their sympathies for the government and the people of Bangladesh, particularly to those directly affected by the floods.

"It's my heartfelt wish that the situation will improve expeditiously, relieving the people of the affected areas of the untold hardships that they are undergoing at this moment," Kumaratunga said.

In another message to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, the Korean Prime Minister said: "I have every confidence that under your leadership the government and the people of Bangladesh will stand together in unity to accomplish the prompt restoration and reconstruction of your country."
