Family to keep Santosh Gupta in hospital for another day

Family members of noted journalist, columnist and writer Santosh Gupta have decided to keep him in the hospital for another day.

Santosh, who is fighting for life at the intensive care unit of Birdem Hospital since Saturday last, was still in coma till yesterday afternoon.

"We decided to take our father back home today. But after returning from Germany, my sister Aditi Gupta broke down and wanted to keep him in the hospital," said Priyatosh Gupta, youngest son of the journalist.

However, the family members will decide today when they will take him back home.

Santosh was admitted to the hospital after he fell ill while taking a morning walk. He suffered from brain haemorrhage from ruptured veins, Priyatosh quoted medical reports as saying.

Doctors are unable to feel his pulse in the hands and legs. They are forced to feed him artificially through a channel in his chest.

Santosh is working with the daily Sangbad as the senior assistant editor.

He actively participated in the Liberation War. He was the assistant secretary of the information department of the then Bangladesh government in exile.
