Woes of tax-payers
Anonymous, Dhaka
I sent my driver to collect my TIN certificate yesterday - the clerk at the desk refused to receive the application unless he was paid Tk.1,000 . The clerk was downright rude and there was almost a fist-fight. The application for TIN certificate was finally "received" without bribe, with the intervention of an officer. I have no idea if, and when, I will receive my certificate. My question : does the finance minister know what we have to go through to pay taxes? What has been done about these corrupt officials? If the government is serious about raising revenue, something must be done about these corrupt officials. They are the biggest hindrance to tax-paying citizens - millions cannot suffer for the corruption of just a few. Let us identify these people and give them the punishment they deserve.
