Turn to Sri Lanka
Zahir Sadeque, Kathmandu, Nepal
I agree with many about our getting the Test status well before we were ready--thanks to the Asian influence in ICC and kind (but not necessarily wise) support from the other fellow Asian Test playing country boards. However, once thrust into the status we can only work harder to justify it, rather than seek withdrawal from it as suggested by some. We have to look at Sri Lanka and not India or Pakistan for inspiration. Compared to India and Pakistan, Sri Lanka is a much smaller country and a relatively new entrant to the Test playing club . However, their progress belies history, tradition, commercial support and all other conceivable factors for success. Their athleticism, commitment, cricketing brain and steel nerves are truly worthy of emulation by us, who constantly display lack of skill, tenacity, judgement and ability. Nepal has progressed rapidly with a Sri Lankan coach and help and soon they may beat us in one day cricket. We should get several age group coaches from Sri Lanka to prepare our youngsters on cricket and fitness and hopefully they will be able to replace our worthless national stars very soon. Despite being a far smaller country, Sri Lanka has plenty of top class players and their junior sides are capable of beating us easily. The BCB should learn how Sri Lanka achieved so much and try to emulate the method and regime for our cricket.
