'Pay salary arrears to flood-hit garment workers'

Bangladesh Apparels Workers Federation (BAWF) yesterday urged the authorities concerned to pay all salary arrears to the garment workers immediately to help overcome their hardship caused by the floods.

Addressing a press conference at Purana Paltan in the city, BAWF President Tauhidur Rahman also called for payment of one month's salary in assistance for flood-hit garment workers.

He urged the garment owners to suspend night shift duty for female workers at the present situation and provide shelter to flood-affected workers inside the factories until the recession of waters from their residence.

Tauhidur Rahman alleged that Bangladesh Garments Manufacturer and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is not helping out the flood-effected garment workers properly.

He also called on the international buyers to extend the shipment date for another 60 days.
