Mohiuddin's demands are 'a hoax', says Mir Nasir

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mir Md. Nasir Uddin has said Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury's 40-point demand is "nothing but a hoax".

"These are aimed at distracting people's attention from the huge corruption he did as a non-elected Mayor of Chittagong in the last eleven years in the name of development", Nasir, told a public meeting at Laldighi Maidan in the city on Thursday.

A former Mayor of Chittaong, Nasir is now president of the city unit of ruling BNP.

"Mohiuddin Chowdhury's finding of Indian separatists' camps inside Bangladesh and demand for providing India with transport facilities through Chittagong port are naked advocacy for India", Nasir said.

"Mohiuddin's 28-point demand made earlier fizzled out and the present 40-point demand will also have the same fate", he said.

Veteran Awami League leader Mohiuddin at a rally at the same venue on July 27 criticised the government for not making separate allocations for Chittagong in the current budget and called upon the people to build a movement against the government.

Mayor Mohiuddin had termed the rally venue (Laldighi Maidan) an "alternate parliament for Chittagong people" and announced a Tk 7,175 crore "regional budget" for development of Chittagong. Nasir said the "so called alternate parliament" would turn into a people's court to try ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury". He also called for building "resistance against Awami League" in every ward ofthe city.

The rally, organized by the local Four-Party Alliance, was also addressed by, among others, Jatiya Party city unit president Jahangir Alam, Jamaat-e-Islami city Ameer Moulana Shamsul Islam and Islami Okya Jotte president Moulana Abdur Rahman.
