Crop loss Tk 600 cr in 8 S dists
Damage in Patuakhali, Barguna, Pirojpur yet to be assessed

The current floods damaged crops worth at least Tk 600 crore in eight out of eleven districts in the southern region, according to preliminary official estimates.The eight districts are Barisal, Bhola, and Jhalokathi in Barisal division and Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Sariatpur and Rajbari in greater Faridpur district. The damage in Patuakhali, Barguna, Pirojpur districts is yet to be assessed as floodwater has not yet started receding from there. The estimates have been sent to relevant authorities in Dhaka, official sources said here yesterday. The crops include Aman paddy, jute, betel leaves, sugarcane and vegetables. Crops have been damaged on 16,352 hectares in Barisal, 208 in Jhalakathi, 451 in Bhola, 47,900 in Faridpur, 31,100 in Madaripur, 13,900 in Gopalganj, 27,200 in Rajbari and on 49,600 hectares in Shariatpur. About 15 lakh farmer families in these districts have been affected seriously. The damage to betel leaf has been estimated at over Tk six core. The flood damage is being monitored by the Prime Minister's office every day, officials said. Till Wednesday, about Tk 85 lakh was allocated for Faridpur, Rajbari, Sariatpur and Madaripur districts under Agri-Rehabilitation Programme-3, they said.
