Misbehaviour with the Head of Mechanical Faculty, Akter Hossain by a group of students of Civil Faculty has triggered the clash. The academic building was also ransacked by the clashing students.

The Academic Council in an emergency meeting decided to close down the institute. But the closure decision was withdrawn after a successful negotiation between the college authorities and the clashing groups.

A three-member inquiry committee was formed to investigate into the clash.

A large contingent of police has been deployed to check further clashes.
