Scholarship programme for orphan girls

A new scholarship programme was launched for orphan girls in the city yesterday. Under the programme, moral and financial assistance will be provided to orphan girls for higher education. This was stated by Dr S Q Akhtar, founder of Ibrahim Sohbat Mir Welfare Organisation which formally launched the programme at a function at Dhanmondi. "Initially, we are starting the programme with ten underprivileged girls who are meritorious but financially insolvent. Till the girls are well established, they will get Tk 1000 or more per month," said Dr Akhtar. She said a number of benevolent persons have already expressed their willingness to donate money for the programme in the name of their relatives." Dr Anwar Hossain of mechanical engineering department, Mir Mobashwer Ali of architecture department, and Dr Ali Asgar of physics department of Buet, and Prof Rosie Majid of geography department of Dhaka University attended the programme. Established in1989, Ibrahim Sohbat Mir Welfare Organisation has been working for the welfare of the orphan children.
