PM asks for steps to make up loss in education

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday asked the authorities concerned to take steps to make up the losses the students suffered during the devastating floods.At a meeting with Education Minister M Osman Farruk, State Minister for Education Ehsanul Huq Milon and Education Secretary Faruk Ahmed at her office, the prime minister said the teachers should take extra classes, if necessary. She also directed the departments concerned to repair the damaged school buildings for immediate resumption of classes. The education minister informed that 7,032 secondary schools, colleges and madrasas were affected by the floods and 2,381 institutions were used as flood shelters. Mentioning the improvement in the standard of education all over the country, the prime minister also asked the authorities to take adequate measures for maintaining the success achieved in the sector. Earlier, the prime minister had asked the departments concerned to build all new educational institutions above flood level so that they could be used as shelters during floods and other calamities.
