The government has announced a reward of Tk 1 crore to anyone disclosing information about the August 21 grenade attacks on an Awami League rally on Bangabandhu Avenue."We want to reveal truth, which is why we announced the reward," State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar yesterday told reporters after a home ministry meeting on law and order. This is the biggest bounty yet offered by the government to hunt down the bombers in the country, as the law-enforcing agencies have failed to catch them. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shahudul Haq, Home Secretary Omar Faruq and the directors-general of paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), among others, were present. Babar said the government is conducting an inquiry into the grenade attack and is attaching highest priority to the probe. The government has also taken international assistance in the investigation. The state minister met top police officials including heads of different intelligence agencies Friday night and discussed the merit of announcing such a bounty. The meeting viewed that the cash reward may lure some operatives of the group involved with the series of grenade attacks into coming up with information. It decided that the name of the informant would not be disclosed.
