WEA training for jobless Jessore women

An 11-day training programme on Women's Empowerment and Advancement by Learning and Training of Herself (WEALTH) organised by Women Entrepreneurs' Association (WEA) of Bangladesh began in Jessore yesterday.

Inaugurating the programme, Rokia A Rahman, president of WEA, called upon the womenfolk to come to business to attain self-reliance. "When women run business, they give all their earnings to their families but men do not," she said.

Financed by Lever Brothers Bangladesh Ltd and sponsored by Fair and Lovely Foundation, the programme is being implemented by Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha, Bogra for the members of Jessore-based NGO 'Banchte Shekha.'

The first five days of the programme will be on business management and the rest six days on skill development for producing curd. About 30 unemployed women will be given training on business management and production of curd.

In her speech, Geeti Ara Safia Chowdhury, chairman of Adcomm Ltd, said under the programme 1500 unemployed girls have already been trained up on IT. "These girls are now earning for their families. We are giving them training to make them self-reliant.”

Angela Gomes, executive director of Banchte Shekha, and Shoeb Assaduzzaman, regional sales manager of Lever Brothers Bangladesh, also spoke at the function.
