The United States is keeping a close watch on use of Bangladesh as a potential "platform to project terror elsewhere," said Joseph Cofer Black, State Department's coordinator for counter-terrorism.Black, who arrives in Dhaka today on two-day trip, made the remarks in an exclusive interview titled "We are looking closely at Bangladesh," with Indian weekly The Outlook in its advance issue till September 13. "I got some good insights from the Indian team on what is going on in Bangladesh," said Black in the interview conducted in Delhi during his visit there last week to hold meetings of the Indo-US joint working group on counter-terrorism. "We plan to look into -- and if correct -- confirm the Indian view. Ours is a very interested position," Black added. "We need to determine the terrorist threat not only to Bangladesh but also its use as a platform to project terror elsewhere." Asked about India's claim that terrorists camps in Bangladesh are inimical to the stability of the region, Black replied, "We've certainly taken to heart information and the view the Indian government has of terrorist camps in Bangladesh. We are seeking to develop a position on it."
