Khulna UP chairman held for outlaw link

Hujjat Ali, chairman of Amirpur Union Parishad in Batiaghata upazila in Khulna was arrested on Friday afternoon at the office of the Superintendent of Police Habibur Rahman. "The UP chairman is a top leader of Khulna-Batiaghata unit of Janajuddho, a faction of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) and he came to offer me bribe to get the final report of shrimp trader Sultan Joarder murder case in his favour," Habibur said. Hujjat is also a prime suspect of murder of his predecessor and BNP leader Amir Azam Khan, he added. Azam was killed in a bomb attack at Tootpara in Khulna on January 29 this year. Hujjat was elected chairman in the by-election and was moving freely taking the benefit of UP chairmanship. Police sent him to jail showing him arrested in shrimp trader Sultan Joarder murder case.
