DU syndicate polls today

Elections to the syndicate, academic council and finance committee of Dhaka University (DU) will be held today, one and a half years after the expiry of their tenure.The Awami League-backed Blue panel and the pro-BNP White panel are contesting the elections. There are six categories in the syndicate -- dean, provost, professor, associate professor, assistant professor and lecturer -- and two categories in the academic council -- associate professor and assistant professor. The white panel candidates forx the syndicate are Prof Sadrul Amin, Dr Tajmeri Selima Akther Islam, Prof Abul Khair, Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, Dr Muhammad Rafiqul Islam and Mohammad Alamgir Hossain Samrat while the Blue panel candidates are Prof RIM Aminur Rashid, Prof Nasrin Ahmed, Prof Kazi Shahidullah, Dr Sadeka Halim, Sikder Monwar Morshed and Dr Rahmat Ullah. Contesting the election to the academic council from the Blue panel are Dr Saiful Islam Khan, Dr Javed Ahmed, Dr Fazlul Karim, Dewan Ali Ahsan, Md Aftab Ali Khan and Mafizur Rahman and their rivals are DR SM Mostafa AL Mamun, Dr Hafiz Tareque Abdullah Khan, Nevin Farida, Dr Abul Hasnat, Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dr Mohammad Mezbah-ul-Islam. Mohammad Shafiquzzaman of Blue panel and Dr Shamsuddin Ahmed of White panel are vying for the post in the finance committee. The voting will be held from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Teacher Student Centre (TSC).
