The interest-free loans were distributed as part of the poverty alleviation programme of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur M Nasiruddin gave away the cheques at a meeting organised by the Livestock Department. District Livestock Officer Narayan Chandra Roy presided over the meeting while Police Superintendent MA Jalil addressed it.
