Judicial body seeks 3-week extension

The one-member judicial commission on the August 21 grenade attacks on Awami League (AL) rally has urged the government to extend its tenure for another three weeks.Sources close to the commission told the news agency yesterday that besides the request made for time extension, it has sent letter to the Leader of the Opposition seeking her cooperation in unearthing the truth behind the attacks. It is the third letter sent to her by the commission. The commission also sent separate letters to 19 central Awami League leaders who were present at the rally on 8/21, asking them to be present before the Chairman of the Commission Justice Joynul Abedin for giving their depositions. "Their names were quoted by several injured AL leaders and activists as the commission has been taking their depositions at different hospitals in the city," said justice Joynul Abedin. Yesterday, the commission took statements of two injured persons who are undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.
