5 students among 7 killed, 30 injured in road accident


Seven people including five students were killed and 30 others injured in a road accident at Kamtal in Bandar while returning from a wedding party in Comilla on Monday night.

The dead were identified as Tuhin and Andalif of Dhaka City College, Tanvir Ahmed of North South University, Sabrin Tasmin Nishi and Syeda Sahara Joba of marketing department of Dhaka University, Dr Farooque, a member of Dhaka Club, and one Shahjahan of Rampura.

Police said the bus fell in a ditch while overtaking a truck and plunged into the water.

The locals rescued some of the survivors who managed to get out of the bus.

The injured were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and Madanpur Sizan Clinic.

Divers of fire service recovered the bodies on the following morning.

The bus, which had around 60 passengers, was not salvaged from the ditch till 4:00pm yesterday.

Police suspect that more bodies may be found in the bus.

Some locals have complained that several miscreants looted the belongings of the dead and threw the bodies into the river instead of recovering them.
