Democracy or dictatorship in USA?
O.H.Kabir, Wari,Dhaka
In the disguise of 'government of the people, by the people and for the people' President George Bush has turned the US democracy into dictatorship and he has become the greatest dictator of the 21st century. In an interview published in the New York Times recently President George Bush has rightly said, "The President has to make hard decisions. My job is to confront problems not to pass them on. And the American people have seen me make hardest decisions." We wonder how the Americans and the people of the world see and feel about the powers and functions and the way US President George Bush confronts problems and make decisions? Does he make decisions democratically? What does the US President want? War or peace? A lover of democracy always respects people's opinion and loves peace. But a dictator does not listen to any one and likes war. He invites his own downfall and brings disgrace to his country. The US President has proved to be an arrogant and a war monger. In his totalitarian rule he wants to solve problems militarily and not democratically. George Bush has amply proved so by attacking, invading and occupying Afghanistan and Iraq. He has also lent his full support to Israel to carry out oppression and suppression on the Palestinians and to deny independence to Palestine. Theoretically George Bush is an exponent of democracy but practically he is a dictator who has plunged the USA into the abyss of darkness. What is going to happen after November 2004 US Presidential election? Democracy or dictatorship in USA? If president George Bush is re-elected for the 2nd term the world situation and the sufferings of the people would be further aggravated due to excesses and abuse of power and his plans and programmes to contain the so called international terrorism, activities of Al-Qaeda and Taliban supporters, destruction of nuclear power establishments of North Korea, Iran and Pakistan, reshaping the map of the Middle East and to carry out pre-emptive attack on any country in the world on the pretext of self defence. It may be recalled that during World War II Germany, Japan and Italy dreamt of building modest empires. But after the dissolution of the USSR the US President George Bush dreams of a gargantuan US empire and he wants to rule and dictate the whole world by force. It is said that the US President is the most powerful head of state in the world. Power corrupts. It is imperative that the American people curb and rectify the powers and functions of the US President. There should not be any totalitarian rule anywhere in the world.
