Use of power-saving bulb

UNDP's report on 'sustainable energy programme ' has said, 'by using electricity saving bulb in Bangladesh, it's possible to save about 345 MW power every day, which is one-tenth of the total generation of electricity.' The report says that at present there is a total generation of 3000 to 3500 MW in the country; of this, approximately 600 MW is being used for electric light, rest of the electricity is used in other mills and factories. The energy-saving bulb gives the same amount of light yet consumes less energy. These bulbs are being used in the developed and many developing countries. In Bangladesh, while some luxurious offices use these bulbs, it is not used in a large-scale. Although these cost higher, its large-scale use would allow a saving of Tk 1200 crores, an amount equal to the cost of setting up a 345 MW power station.
