Khulna keep afloat

Khulna District Sports Association kept their semifinal hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Chittagong Division in the women's football tournament yesterday. Shimu and Romana scored for Khulna's second win at the Dhanmondi Women's Sports Complex. They have now six points on completion of their three Group B games. Bangladesh Ansar are leading the group with six points from two matches. In the day's other match, Khagrachari blanked Jessore Education Board 3-0 for their first win after two defeats. Debjani Tripura, Aungmrachin Marma and Craching Marma netted one goal each for hill tracts outfit. Dhaka have already qualified for the semis from Group A with maximum nine points. VDP, who have a match in hand against Jessore Education Board, looks the likely team to advance into the last four from this group. The day's matches were shifted to the Dhanmondi venue due to a dawn-to-dusk hartal. Matches will be played at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamlapur again from today.
