750 M16 ammo, wireless sets seized

Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) yesterday seized huge ammunition of M-16 rifle and 30 high-powered wireless sets from the border area of Naikhangchhari.

The BDR seized 750 M-16 bullets from Baishari and the wireless sets and seven binoculars from Jaruliya during regular patrols, sources said. The criminals might have abandoned them sensing the BDR's presence, the sources added.

Naikhangchhari has become a haven for arms traffickers. Two US arms specialists visited the area in February in the wake of seizure of huge arms and ammunition.

As many as 536 grenades, 32 anti-tank mines, seven anti-personnel mines and six 40mm rocket launchers were seized from Naikhongchhari since August last year.
