The Jahangirnagar Theatre (JT), a leading theatre group of Jahangirnagar University (JU), recently held a three-day long drama festival titled 'Freshers reception drama festival-2004' on the campus.'Sumi was supposed to be present in this festival, our function is for Sumi,' with this slogan the programme began by observing a minute's silence in honour of Sumi, a fresher of Philosophy who died in a recent tragic road accident. Though the programme was scheduled to be held at Muktamancha (amphitheater), the organisers were compelled to shift the programme due to incessant rain. The highlights of the festival were drama Narak Gulzar, staged by Drishapot and George Dandiya from JT , a member of the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, The festival ended with the staging of Bibartan, a street play staged by the Center for Asian Theatre. Written by Saidus Saqlain and directed by Monir Ahmad Shakil, the drama is a satire on endangered human rights.
