Arson in Pirgacha
Hunger strike by Hindus for arrest of culprits

About 300 members of the Hindu community staged a two-hour token hunger strike at the Court Square in the town protesting police inaction in arresting the culprits responsible for arson incidents at Adom Sarkerpara village on August 23 and at Monurchhara village on September 16 in Pirgacha upazila.

Twenty-two houses belonging to eight Hindu families were burnt in the Adom Sarkerpara incident. In Monurchhara, a temple was torched by unidentified miscreants.

The villagers from the two villages staged the token hunger strike from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm.

They also held a rally, where the speakers alleged that the culprits who set fire to 22 houses in Adom Sarkerpara are still threatening the victims with dire consequence.

But police are inactive after arresting Raju, the prime accused.

They urged the administration to arrest rest of the culprits.

None of the accused in the Monurchhara incident has been nabbed, they said.

Later they handed over a memorandum to the Police Superintendent demanding action against the culprits.

Leaders of district Hindu Boddho Christian Oikko Parisod led by Bonomali Pual and Komol Kumar Mojumder also handed over a memorandum to the SP demanding arrest of the culprits.
