'Listed criminal' dies in 'crossfire' with police


A listed criminal and an armed cadre of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddho) died in crossfire with police in Prem Kanon area of Khalishpur Thana on Friday.

The dead victim is Shahadat Hossain,32.

Shahadat was wanted in six criminal cases including four murders and two bomb attacks on patrol police, according to police. He was also a suspect in journalists Manik Saha and Humayun Kabir Balu murder cases.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and district police came under armed attack by Shahadat and his associates. When police fired at Shahadat, he died after receiving bullets in his chest. His associates managed to escape, according to DC (North) Tamijuddin Ahmed. They were making bombs in Prem Kanon area, the DC added.

Bomb making ingredients were recovered from the hideout of the slain outlaw, according to police. His body was lying at Khulna Medical College (KMCH) morgue till filing of the report.
