Staff at Barisal hospital go on 3-day strike from today

Staff and workers of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) will go for a three-day strike from today demanding cancellation of appointment of some 126 new staff. They observed a two-hour token strike yesterday, brought out a procession and held a rally on the campus to press for their demand. The non-gazetted staff demanded fresh recruitment, terming the previous selection process "illegal and biased". They also declared local BMA (Bangladesh Medical Association) and Dab (Doctors Association of Bangladesh) leaders unwanted and demanded their removal from the campus for their alleged involvement in the appointment procedure.
