Mariners win big again

Mariner Youngs Club recorded their second successive victory in the Club Cup hockey tournament thrashing Farashganj Sporting Club 8-1 at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium yesterday.

Mariners, who brushed aside Bangladesh Railway 14-0 in their group opener, went ahead two minutes after the start and were leading 5-0 at the break.

Prashanta slammed three goals, Yamin Vatti netted two while Belal, Kamal and Ranjan each struck once apiece for the winners. Raju scored the consolation goal for First Division side Farashganj, who lost 7-0 to Abahani in their previous match.

In the day's earlier match, second half goals helped Ajax Sporting Club blank Railway 3-0. After a barren first, Ajax found the mark one minute into the second session through Tutul Kumar who converted a penalty corner. Late goals by Rahat and Toufiq earned three points for the Elephant Road outfit.
