Mete uthi boishakhi utshobey, sung by Mehreen, is also written by him. However, this is the first festive song after Melay jaire, sung by Maksud of Feedback which was a big hit. 'I had been toying with the idea of writing such a song for a long time, 'says Mahmud.

The lyricist of many popular songs, Khurshid started his journey in 1989. The first band he worked with was Octave. He wrote half of the songs for the band's album Tumi Chole Gechho. Next he wrote lyrics for Miles, which instantly brought him into the limelight. Shei mishti hashi bhulte parini was his first song written for Miles' first album Protisruti.

Some of Mahmud's popular songs like Phiriye dao, Neela, Dhiki dhiki agun joley appeared with Shopno bhongo and other songs in the Miles'second album Prottasha.

These songs mainly helped Prottasha to become one of the most memorable albums in Bangla band history. His next creations were Jala jala, Bhulbona tomake for Miles' third album Prottoy. Probaho, the fourth album of Miles, touched the listener's heart with Bisshoy jatra and Parini bujhatey.

Mahmud Khurshid also composed the lyrics of some delightful songs for the popular metal band Warfaze. Besides band songs, he wrote songs for many solo artistes such as Ankhi Alamgir and Kaniz Shuborna. The popular songs performed by them and the songs of Miles are also often telecast on Indian channels like Tara Bangla and MTV.

Sentiment, heritage and country images have been used as the theme of the songs written by Mahmud. As he says, 'I was always inspired by positive themes.' He enjoys the songs of the band Feedback, Miles, Renaissance, Warfaze, LRB and Souls. 'Besides this, Black, Subconscious, Artcell and Arthaheen are setting a new trend, which is a plus point of band music, ' says Mahmud. According to him, nowadays, quantity is getting priority over quality.

Most of the songs written by Mahmud have been composed by Manam Ahmed. 'We have an intellectual understanding,' points out Mahmud. 'The lyrics of all my songs are tuned while still in the process of writing. The lyrics and the music are interlaced in a complementary manner,' he adds.

Mahmud Khurshid is also a familiar face in the advertisement. He appeared as model in the advertisements of Fair and Lovely, Berger paints, HSBC bank and Liberty shoes. 'I anchored the programme Bolun Dekhi in BTV. I also worked as a presenter in a few documentary programmes. This is how I came into modeling,' says Mahmud.

Lyricist Mahmud Khurshid is the author of more than ten books. Most of the writings are science oriented. ' To be a recognised lyricist is my passion, the other activities I am engaged in are my interest,' says Mahmud.

Mahmud plans to write more songs for Miles and Feedback. This is a welcome piece of news for music lovers.
