DU selects 3 JCD leaders as section officers despite note of dissent
Selection committee meets again today

Dhaka University (DU) authorities have finalised appointment of three Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders as section officers and recommended promoting three class three employees to section officers ignoring a note of dissent by the treasurer.

The selection committee headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof AFM Yusuf Haider finalised the list of appointees at a meeting on October 26, sources said.

Although Treasurer Prof Syed Rashidul Hasan requested the committee to postpone the meeting as he had some family appointments on the day, the committee did not pay heed to his request, they added.

The three JCD men are Qamrul Hasan, assistant literature secretary of the central committee, Amzad Hossain Shishir, a former leader of Surya Sen Hall unit and Abu Syeed.

The committee made the recommendation at the meeting and sent it to the treasurer for his signature, but he did not sign it, sources said.

The treasurer later sent a note of dissent to Vice Chancellor Prof SMA Faiz, saying that no rules and regulations were followed in the recommendation for their appointment and promotion.

Prof Hasan told The Daily Star that the same committee earlier recommended the three for appointment as section officers but the syndicate did not approve it.

"The committee will sit tomorrow (Sunday) to discuss the issue again," he said.

The DU authorities advertised for the posts of section officers in December last year and a total of 269 candidates applied for the posts.

The authorities postponed the date for viva voce at least four times to recruit the three JCD leaders, sources said. Talking to The Daily Star, the Pro-VC said the committee selected the appointees on the basis of their qualification, not on the basis of their political identity.

Asked about the note of dissent, he said he was not aware of it.
