HC stays case against Prothom Alo

The High Court on Tuesday stayed the proceedings of a defamation case filed against the editor, the publisher and a reporter of the daily Prothom Alo.A division bench comprising Justice SK Sinha and Justice Shahidul Islam also issued a rule on the government to show cause why the case would not be dismissed. A magistrate who was assaulted for frisking a female SSC candidate in Kushtia in search of copies in 1999 filed the case against Prothom Alo Editor Motiur Rahman, Publisher Mahfuz Anam and Kushtia correspondent Tariqul Haq Tariq after the news was published in the Bangla daily.
